Two-plus years ago, as I was sheepishly trying to ask my daughter’s trainer yet another question about something related to a halter (NOT harness), and to please explain (again) how early we needed to lunge Nikki before warmups, and what time Riloh is showing… and I started with, “Okay, now please explain this all for a non-horse person…” Mary the trainer looked at me and said, “Stop saying you’re not a horse person. You ARE a horse person now, Kristin. Huh, yea, I guess I am.
Being the mom of a kid who is 110 percent into horses will do that to you. By now, I’m in it pretty deep, too. And it’s really great most of the time. We’re crazy about Nikki (the wonderhorse we lease) and our barn friends, and Riloh and I have BOTH come a long way with our horse knowledge. I still have a lot to learn, but I feel like I’m at a point where I can help other parents new to the mucky, dusty, fly-infested scene.
So, I’m going to write some stories here. We’ve had some hilarious adventures and some stressful early mornings, all related to that chestnut mare. It’s April in Minnesota, which means we’re finally thawing out and watching the first sprouts of grass fill our pastures in anticipation of outdoor hunter jumper show season. I’m going to try to keep up with my new blog and write about how it’s all going.
Cheers!

You’re a horse person now, Kristin
